There is a brand new sport that is like surfing, wakeboarding, and flying all at once. If you’ve ever been to Pismo Beach on a windy day, you will see over two dozen kiteboarders in the water or doing tricks high above it. Most of these riders are ordinary people that are simply addicted to this amazing extreme sport called kiteboarding.
Kiteboarding uses the wind to combine the aspects of surfing, snowboarding, wakeboarding, and windsurfing into one extreme ocean sport. The kite, anywhere from 6-20 square meters, powers the rider through the water. The kite will have either 4 or 5 lines up to 27 meters long that connect to a control bar, which the rider pushes and pulls to control the kite in any direction. The bar hooks into the rider’s harness, which is most often worn around the waist. A board similar to a wakeboard or surfboard enables the rider to fly over the water. The IC-M72’s 6 Watts of transmit power can carry a conversation a long way. A large capacity 2000mAh Lithium-Ion battery allows for 15–16 hours of operation, under normal conditions. (Typical operation: 5% TX, 5% RX, 90% standby)
Impressive Force 5 Audio
The M72’s impressive audio output (600mW typ.) is loud enough to hear in most any marine environment – even over loud engine noise.
Submersible PLUS (IPX8)
The IC-M72 offers Icom’s best-ever protection against water intrusion. This radio has been tested to survive after being submersed in 1.5m (4.9ft) depth of water for 30 minutes.
Wide Viewing Angle LCD
A wide viewing angle, high intensity LCD is used in the IC-M72, offering bright, easy to read characters. The bright LCD backlighting and backlit keypad are great for night time operation.
30% Shorter Antenna
The IC-M72’s antenna is engineered to perform with typical Icom efficiency even though it is nearly 30% shorter than previous Icom marine antennas.
