What is Kiteboarding?

There is a sport that is like surfing, wakeboarding, and flying all at once.  If you’ve ever been to Pismo Beach on a windy day, you will see over two dozen kiteboarders in the water or doing tricks high above it.  Most of these riders are ordinary people that are simply addicted to this amazing extreme sport called kiteboarding.

Kiteboarding uses the wind to combine the aspects of surfing, snowboarding, wakeboarding, and windsurfing into one extreme ocean sport.  The kite, anywhere from 6-20 square meters, powers the rider through the water.  The kite will have either 4 or 5 lines up to 27 meters long that connect to a control bar, which the rider pushes and pulls to control the kite in any direction.  The bar hooks into the rider’s harness, which is most often worn around the waist. A board similar to a wakeboard or surfboard enables the rider to fly over the water. Check out our kites, boards, and harnesses here

We carry Naish, DaKine, Slingshot, Neil Pryde, Caution, NPX, Starboard, Creatures of Leasure, Ocean and Earth, Werner, Garmin, AzHiAzIaM, MBS, and much more.

The Fast Find 210 is a waterproof 406 MHz Personal Location Beacon (PLB) that should be carried by individuals, who are embarking on trips into areas around the world where there is little or no other form of communication or where other forms of communication are unlikely to work. The Fast Find acts as your personal Emergency Location Beacon, it is your last resort communication to the national and international search and rescue bodies and it should not be mis-used. The Fast Find is designed as a direct communication, to the 406 MHz Search and Rescue satellite system, its signal indicates that you are in need of urgent response and assistance.

Its small size belies its rugged construction and powerful output. There is no compromise. Once activated, the distress beacon will send out a signal for help, and continues to transmit for at least 24 hours, at a powerful 5 watt output, ensuring that your call for help gets through whatever the conditions. The pocket sized, waterproof beacon transmits at the press of a button, to alert search and rescue services to your plight.

Once activated, FAST FIND's signals will continue to transmit for at least 24 hours, at a powerful 5 watt output, the 406 MHz transmission ensures that a call for help gets through whatever the conditions.

FAST FIND also includes a unique SOS LED flash light facility which is manually activated to further assist in speeding up the users recovery during night time rescues.

406 MHz EMERGENCY LOCATION BEACONS EXPLAINED

406 MHz Emergency Location Beacons ExplainedEmergency Location Beacons such as The Fast Find Personal Locator Beacon (PLB) are used to alert search and rescue services in the event of an emergency. They do this by transmitting a coded message on the international 406 MHz distress frequency which is relayed via satellites and earth stations to the nearest rescue co-ordination centre.

The system is one you can rely on. The COSPAS SARSAT SYSTEM has rescued over 22,000 people since it was first established in 1985. You can read more about how the system works by visiting www.cospas-sarsat.org.

Once your signal has been automatically de-coded, it will be the Rescue Centre in the country where your bought and registered your Fast Find, that receives the information. The team there will work hard and quickly to establish your whereabouts and your potential situation, using a cross reference of information. They will then determine what search and rescue facilities are closest to you, and contact them to arrange a rescue.

121.5 MHz EXPLAINED

121.5MHz is a homing signal. It is a secondary signal that is transmitted by the Fast Find, so that when a search party is in the near vicinity it will pick up the signal and immediately calculate which direction it is coming from. This enables the team to get to the victim directly and quickly.

121.5MHz was until recently used as a distress signal via the satellite system but has now been discontinued. Only the 406 MHz transmission is now used.

GPS EXPLAINED

GPS ExplainedGPS PLBs have been designed to enhance further the lifesaving capabilities of conventional Emergency Location Beacons. When a GPS PLB is activated in an emergency, GPS positional information is automatically transmitted as part of the distress message.

The Global Positioning System (GPS) has an array of orbiting satellites and provides the PLB with positional information and with new positional updates occurring every 20 minutes. Fast Find PLB is capable of tracking 50 GPS satellites at once. The inclusion of GPS based positional information can greatly reduce the time it takes for the Search and Rescue authorities to arrive on scene. When speed of response and accuracy of location are important considerations, then GPS PLBs offer the best in performance.

The location of a Fast Find 210 GPS PLB can be determine to a typical positional accuracy of about +/- 62 metres (0.03 miles) within a few minutes of PLB activation and a non-GPS Fast Find 200 PLB within about +/- 5km (3 miles) and typically within 45 minutes.

For an full explanation, visit the Cospas-Sarsat web site at http://www.cospas-sarsat.org.

WHAT IS SOS LED?

The Fast Find features a unique FLASH SOS FEATURE so that in addition to sending a distress signal, you can transmit a powerful light, which is particularly useful at night, if a search party is trying to locate you. When the Fast Find is active, pressing the ON button will cause the indicator light to flash a Morse code SOS pattern. The SOS pattern is repeated four times on each press.
