What is Kiteboarding?

There is a sport that is like surfing, wakeboarding, and flying all at once.  If you’ve ever been to Pismo Beach on a windy day, you will see over two dozen kiteboarders in the water or doing tricks high above it.  Most of these riders are ordinary people that are simply addicted to this amazing extreme sport called kiteboarding.

Kiteboarding uses the wind to combine the aspects of surfing, snowboarding, wakeboarding, and windsurfing into one extreme ocean sport.  The kite, anywhere from 6-20 square meters, powers the rider through the water.  The kite will have either 4 or 5 lines up to 27 meters long that connect to a control bar, which the rider pushes and pulls to control the kite in any direction.  The bar hooks into the rider’s harness, which is most often worn around the waist. A board similar to a wakeboard or surfboard enables the rider to fly over the water. Check out our kites, boards, and harnesses here

We carry Naish, DaKine, Slingshot, Neil Pryde, Caution, NPX, Starboard, Creatures of Leasure, Ocean and Earth, Werner, Garmin, AzHiAzIaM, MBS, and much more.

PKRA Argentina - Day 5 - Saturday, November 6, 2010 3:00 PM

The wind began to howl in the early morning hours here in Bariloche, Argentina. During the skippers meeting at 10:00am, race director Erik Troostheide called the weather conditions unsafe and released all riders for the final day of competition.

It was an unfortunate day for all the racers who intended to compete in the Vari Long Distance Course Race, however it was a huge honor to have a legend like Martin Vari showing his support for the PKRA Kiteboarding World Tour by competing in the racing discipline.

It is with great pleasure to announce that Toby Bromwich whom has been a part of the PKRA crew for a very long time has been promoted from a fixed international judge to the new official PKRA photographer. Bromwich’s photos tell a story all on their own, making the saying “pictures are worth a thousand words” an understatement. Click on the daily link to see all of Bromwich’s daily event photos.

For the first time in PKRA history, the Kiteboarding World Tour brought the best riders from around the world to enjoy the beautiful lake of Nahuel Huapi in Bariloche, Argentina and I’m positive that it will be repeated in years to come due to the successful outcome.

There are two more PKRA events to go: New Caledonia and Australia. The points to determine who will win the world title of the year are really tight within the top 3 men, Youri Zoon, Andy Yates and Alex Pastor. It's going to be an exciting end of the season. Gisela Pulido has a huge lead in this season's ranking as Bruna Kajiya and Karolina Winkowska inch their way behind Pulido in order to catch up, it's still anyone's game.

An award ceremony was held in the town of Bariloche where competitors, locals and crew enjoyed a fun evening of laughs and dancing.

The Argentina Kitesurf World Cup 2010 was made possible and sponsored in part by: Vari Kites, INPROTUR (Argentina National Institute of Tourism Promotion), U1st-Sports, Rapa Nui Chocolates, Sancor Seguros, Pantagonia, Club de Caza y Pesca de Bariloche, Prefectura, Parques Nacionales.
