What is Kiteboarding?

There is a sport that is like surfing, wakeboarding, and flying all at once.  If you’ve ever been to Pismo Beach on a windy day, you will see over two dozen kiteboarders in the water or doing tricks high above it.  Most of these riders are ordinary people that are simply addicted to this amazing extreme sport called kiteboarding.

Kiteboarding uses the wind to combine the aspects of surfing, snowboarding, wakeboarding, and windsurfing into one extreme ocean sport.  The kite, anywhere from 6-20 square meters, powers the rider through the water.  The kite will have either 4 or 5 lines up to 27 meters long that connect to a control bar, which the rider pushes and pulls to control the kite in any direction.  The bar hooks into the rider’s harness, which is most often worn around the waist. A board similar to a wakeboard or surfboard enables the rider to fly over the water. Check out our kites, boards, and harnesses here

We carry Naish, DaKine, Slingshot, Neil Pryde, Caution, NPX, Starboard, Creatures of Leasure, Ocean and Earth, Werner, Garmin, AzHiAzIaM, MBS, and much more.

Australian Freestyle Kite Championships - Tuesday, February 23, 2010 1:00 PM

Australian Freestyle Kite ChampionshipsTeam Naish Australia had a successful event at the 2010 Australian Freestyle Championships held at St. Kilda Beach, Melbourne on February 11–13, 2010.

No events took place on day one due to light wind, torrential rain and lighting cracking. The wind built to 12m conditions for day two and a single elimination was completed with Naish Rider Simon Wichterman finishing 3rd after just beating his Naish teammate Ewan Jaspen who took 4th.

Ewan was competing in the Junior division as well as the Open Men’s, so he was stoked to finish 4th in the single elimination open mens division.

Simon and Ewan had spent a month training together in Western Australia with International Naish Rider, Sam Light.

Day three saw the completion of the double elimination with Ewan defending his 4th position, which again brought him up against Naish teammate Simon. This time Ewan took 3rd overall, while Simon claimed 4th.

Ewan finished off a great event with a 2nd place in the Junior Men’s and 1st place in the kiteacross race against a field of International Riders.
