What is Kiteboarding?

There is a sport that is like surfing, wakeboarding, and flying all at once.  If you’ve ever been to Pismo Beach on a windy day, you will see over two dozen kiteboarders in the water or doing tricks high above it.  Most of these riders are ordinary people that are simply addicted to this amazing extreme sport called kiteboarding.

Kiteboarding uses the wind to combine the aspects of surfing, snowboarding, wakeboarding, and windsurfing into one extreme ocean sport.  The kite, anywhere from 6-20 square meters, powers the rider through the water.  The kite will have either 4 or 5 lines up to 27 meters long that connect to a control bar, which the rider pushes and pulls to control the kite in any direction.  The bar hooks into the rider’s harness, which is most often worn around the waist. A board similar to a wakeboard or surfboard enables the rider to fly over the water. Check out our kites, boards, and harnesses here

We carry Naish, DaKine, Slingshot, Neil Pryde, Caution, NPX, Starboard, Creatures of Leasure, Ocean and Earth, Werner, Garmin, AzHiAzIaM, MBS, and much more.

Three PKRA Riders in Contention for the 2009 PKRA World Cup Title - Monday, November 23, 2009 11:00 AM

The last leg of the 2009 Professional Kiteboard Riders Association (PKRA) World Tour happening from November 25 to 29, 2009 is the most anticipated event in kiteboarding this year. The final Tour stop will be held at the beautiful South Pacific Island of New Caledonia, which will host the first ever PKRA competition. Dubbed the “Teri Kite Pro 2009,” said event will be held at Pointe Magnin, Nouméa – home to the world’s largest enclosed lagoon with remarkable, crystal clear, and perfectly flat water.

Not only will the new location add to the excitement of both local and international kiteboarding fans, but this year’s PKRA World Title for the Freestyle event is still up for grabs and is being contested by three of the most prolific and extreme kiteboard riders in the world.

British champion and current PKRA World Title holder Aaron Hadlow (Flexifoil) remains on top of the overall ranking with 2,540 points and is enthusiastic more than ever to win his sixth straight world title. Hadlow won the men’s Freestyle events in France and Fuerteventura but came in third place in Germany after loosing to two Dutch riders, Youri Zoon (Slingshot) and Kevin Langeree (Naish) in the finals.

Langeree won the German Tour stop and trails Hadlow in the world rankings with 2,454 points overall. The Dutch champion is focused more than ever in winning his first ever World Title. Both Langeree or Zoon needs to win the New Caledonia event in order to capture the PKRA World Title. There are no other options.

The mixture of high intensity kiteboarding action, the eagerness of the three riders to capture the World Title and the excitement of the new Tour stop will surely make kiteboarding history as only the Professional Kiteboard Riders Association can delivery.
